Use “In-between” times.
Part 4 of 5 of : FIVE ways to fit art into your daily routine
“There are no crappy moments” -Ryan Holiday
Between having a pocket-sized sketchbook and a mindset that anything can be art you have everything you need to take advantage of when the opportunity to make art strikes!
But here’s the thing, opportunity feels less like lightning and more like a lull.
It takes practice to recognise the lull, and to say, this is my chance.
Ryan Holiday writes that there are no: “Crappy Moments”
Every moment is filled with the potential to make art.
Write a Sentence, or draw the most interesting you can see or remember.
Are you going to become an obsessive art-making machine? Is that better than being an obsessive doom scroller? Maybe, at least you are slowing down and looking at the world and not getting sucked into that wicked magic mirror we call a phone.
In fact, why not start there, instead of picking up your phone for that sweet, heart notification with a number next to it, use that moment to draw in your sketchbook instead. Draw a heart! Draw a star!
Celebrate your resistance and the fact that you took a moment to enter into the presence that is required to make art.

I draw in the school pickup line when time allows. This morning I drew at the car service center. Hope to draw during holiday travel.
Picking up my sketchbook and carrying around with me makes such a difference. Or having a sketchbook and pencil in every room!
