Every week, I give myself a new sketchbook project.
Sometimes, I do the project daily for the whole week. Other times I might fall off and draw something else instead, sometimes an older sketchbook project, or sometimes it’s ’free play. The sketches are less works of art and more like the ‘work’ of art.
The goal is to show up at the sketchbook and try new things.
As always I invite you to join in!
This week’s sketchbook project is called Blobs and Lines.
The idea is to combine a shape (or blob) with some lines to create an image or a pattern.
A rectangle could become a car.
This bug is made up of a triple circle blob
This upside down V looks like someone’s pants.
You could also create abstractions.
Drawing Blobs and Lines
Tools: All you need are 2 tools one to make a thin line, and another that makes blobs. I’m using a marker and a liner pen.
Method: Carry your sketchbook and materials with you everywhere this week.
Look for subjects to draw. Choose one of your tools to create either a shape or lines, then finish the image with the other tool.
You could also just draw blobs, then try to turn them into objects and characters
If you don’t have any subjects consider drawing the letters of the alphabet
If you want to share your drawings, you can do it in this gallery:
If you’re interested to start a daily sketchbook habit, here’s a resource to help you:
PS: I write a daily blog called ‘Ugly Work’, about all the little things that go into being a professional artist.
Summer Sale runs for another 7 weeks.
