Success is inevitable if you Keep Going
Whatever you are aiming at, if you keep going you will succeed.
This is best illustrated by this John C. Maxwell story.
Suppose there is a tree that you want to cut down. And every day you go to it, with knife, saw and axe. It doesn’t matter the tool and how much time or effort you spend only that you work on it daily.
Sometimes more, sometimes less.
If you keep coming back daily and cutting the tree, it will eventually fall.
There are two way to fail here:
You show up every day but you work on different trees
You don’t show up
Sketchbook Club : A place to build and protect creative energy.
My solution to keep showing up is to have a community to show up to!
Sketchbook Club is that community.
Ideally this would be a treehouse outside your house where different creatives can gather. Look at each other’s sketchbooks and share their journey. It’s a place to share resources and offer help to one another.
And it’s a place where you will be missed if you don’t turn up.
I think we can do all of the above, except the treehouse part.
Over the years, I’ve tried building community in different ways.

One to get you thinking, What are your next 3 steps as a creative?
I will continue the various community activities in a section of the newsletter called Sketchbook Club.
Once a month the Sketchbook Club will also get a Creative Community Digest , a newsletter aimed at highlighting interesting individuals and their work in the creative community, and ideas that help us build and protect out creative energy.
The creative Community Digest is largely free, but includes some paywalled content for paid members.
Love the tree metaphor, Adam! Also about how you can fail if “You show up every day but you work on different trees” is so on point! Btw, rereading my old color post from back in 2022, I feel like I’ve learned so much more since then. Let me know if you’d ever be interested in another color guest post (part deux) perhaps 😉
Great Post
