Hi everyone, I have an outline for the next creative breakthrough session (live on zoom) and a couple of polls. Also how’s your summer going?
As a paid subscriber, you’ll get an invite to a Creative Breakthrough Session each month.
This month I want to share everything I know about building a portfolio for kids books. I spent 2 years building a portfolio, and have been fully booked for the 4 years I’ve been working in the industry, I’ve also turned down half a dozen projects.
I’ve gotten all this work without leaving my home in Malaysia.
And I want to share what I know about what has worked, I know because I always ask the clients what made them choose me.
Here is an overview of what I’ll cover, let me know if I missed something you would like to know:
What’s a portfolio.
1. It’s proof that you can do a specific job
2. It’s a menu
3. It’s a sales process
4. It’s not just one thing
5. It needs to get in front the eyes of people.
People who hire illustrators are looking for:
1. Someone who knows what they are dong
2. Someone who won’t waste their time
3. Someone who is great to work with
4. Someone who can do a specific job
5. Someone who knows the business
Adam Ming’s portfolio Checklist.
1. Theme
2. Star Players
3. Menu Options
4. Artist Statement
5. Table Stakes
Social Media.
1. Join a project
2. Start a project
3. Curate your list
4. Pay Attention
5. Bio
I’ll start with the slides and invite some questions, and I’ll walkthrough my portfolio, and invite one or two people to share their portfolio for review if you would like.
I’ll follow up the live session with a series of email trainings and worksheets, to help you lock in the lessons and apply them to your situation.
I can do any of the times EXCEPT Monday at 10am. I’ll be at work…I’m really excited about this breakthrough! Thank you, Adam 🖤
This looks great! Sunday or Monday at 10 am is good! thanks! The survey only allowed one answer so if you need a "menu' from me there it is! ha! Can we see recordings from other gatherings like this? I have not seen the announcements for the other ones before this one (or maybe did not understand that I could attend them. Please have closed captioning (I am lifelong deaf) and lip read and I assume we will be looking at work more than faces! Thank you!
~;0). (oh my, I am drawing even here! ha!)
