Marathon
2023 has felt like a marathon.
Each day ending with the comforting routine of tucking our 2.5-year-old into bed, a reminder of the good unfolding in our little world amidst global complexities. As this year's race winds down, next year's already seems to have already started.
I've found a new appreciation for Sundays, a day I used to overlook.
52-Sundays
In these final weeks of the year, Sundays have become trial runs for a 2024 resolution: to genuinely disconnect from work and immerse in the moment.
Sketching may continue, but that's the extent of my work-related activities.
As an emerging illustrator, the urge to ‘catch up’ often had me working tirelessly throughout the year.
But the experiment of taking off just one Sunday recently convinced me of its benefits. The jolt of full presence was like a plunge into cold water - awakening and invigorating. This mindfulness, far from the gentle reprieve often depicted, was a stark contrast to our usual screen-tethered existence.
It reminded me of the richness of truly connecting with the world around us.
So, for 2024, Sundays will be my day of rest and presence. I initially planned a longer letter, a year-end brain dump, but chose to keep it brief and focused instead.
Thank you for being part of this journey, and I'm thrilled about how our newsletter will evolve in the coming year.
Here's to embracing Sundays and all the new beginnings in 2024!

Keeping Sundays for rest, not shopping or working or anything, has been part of my religious tradition since I was a kid, and it honestly makes such a huge difference.
Here in Bavaria, Sundays are really very much a day of rest. No one can be seen to be working on their homes or gardens and all shopping is closed except for places of leisure. Was quite a weird adjustment coming from ‘always on’ London, but i’ve come to really appreciate it. I love that you are going to be intentional about work free Sundays - i’ll join you with that!
