This sounds great to me. I think the industry and practice insights were what made me sign up to paid, and I think you were one of the first paid subs I took out (I finally got to a point where I had to unsubscribe from some as a I had built up quite a bit and yours was one that I didn’t for a moment consider unsubscribing from. The poll wouldn’t let me pick more than one, but I am transitioning careers and self-taught. I love the idea of ten minutes a day that will provide concrete progress there, actually.
Thank you for valuing what I do, I varied the format over the years but the intention is always the same. It was good to have the freedom to try different things and have loyal readers come along for the ride. Right now I want to double down on everything that will help people improve the business side of things. It will be good for me to be thinking about these things daily, and it will absolutely a big impact for readers as well! Like I said the change won’t be immediate, but it’s coming! Thank you for being her!
Hi Adam! It took me awhile to become a paid subscriber because I wasn't really sure if this/your Substack would have value for me...I found that even being a free subscriber you were putting out a lot of information and I initially thought I might be overwhelmed if I got even more content....hahaha!
But the idea of small day to day commitment was the appeal and as you mentioned here prompts can be found anywhere, but by being a member of your Substack I became accountable...so I for one will be dissapointed if you remove them... I think that what finally got me off the Fence was ART GYM, because it somehow tied in to the overall look/feel but now it's seperate....
I love what you do ... and it's probably a good idea for you to refine what content you want to put out... I can't promise I will subscribe for another year after my current year expires, but I do look forward what interesting direction you turn to... it's sure to be interesting!
The sketchbook prompts I’m offering are valuable, but the value is closer to the price of a book of prompts. $17.99 for 365 prompts. For the time I spend writing, and the upside I can bring a certain kind of reader, I’m really looking to charge closer to $50 a month.
Hi Elaine, Thanks for weighing in! You’re right, while prompts can be found anywhere, accountability is something that a community like this will offer, And artgym is a big part of that as well get to see each other face to face. I do hope I’ll keep seeing you at art gym. I’ll consider heavily what you’ve said here about the daily prompts, If I’m going to be writing daily, is will be a good way to deliver prompts, and maybe It could still be that I deliver all the drawing prompts once a week. Appreciate your feedback!
I love your content and it has helped me in so many ways. I am edging closer and closer to a daily practice(less and less missing a day plus Less concerned with perfection and just seeing what arises). I see improvement in my approaches to explore and have fun. Next is making enough items of quality for my portfolio etc. to keep moving towards be able to sell some of my work and illustrate Children's books. I am blessed with your generosity. Layoffs and the economy are really taking a toll on us personally and no jobs to be had and I am guessing others are struggling as well.
I’m so glad that my writing is helping you! And while the environment and noise can seem negative I believe that there is always opportunity for people who take a certain mindset and approach to life and that’s what i want to focus on and in some small way I hope that makes the situation better for a people:)
My aim will be to continue to give value to people who read for free, and do a little more work organising and expanding on that as well as providing some personalised attention. I’m thrilled that you find value being here!
I am an illustrator , and recently paid for your content . I love the art gym and all sorts of other tips and things that you share - the ten minute thing isn’t for me - unless it’s ten minutes of practicing special techniques. Etc. ( because I am already creating every day for work and pleasure ) thanks for all that you do . I found you as a free subscriber , because of all the fun things you were sharing
Thank you for being a reader! And looking forward to seeing you at more Art Gym! We’ve move that to it’s new home (and moved your membership there along with it) mostly because it makes more sense for the collaboration, and allows us each of us to be more personal on our individual substack. For the ten minutes here, the focus will be more about things we can do in 10 minutes to improve our positions as illustrators.
I might still keep the drawing prompt for those who appreciate that, but that will be skippable!
haha, Thanks Sarah! I think it really helps you serve the people you aim to serve, by being clear about who you are not serving! While appreciating that there will always be interested onlookers:) Thanks for kicking off the comments section today! (Nobody unsubscribed)

Your newsletter is extremely valuable to me. My problem is I can’t be a paid subscriber because of financial reasons.

19. Occasionally there are some of you who are just interested, and I’m happy for you to be here too!
20. Everyone else should unsubscribe
I love this 😂

Agree. There's a lot of freedom in that clarity. (And congrats on no one unsubscribing!)
In the end 0.1% Did in fact unsubscribe. Freedom in clarity! ✊
