I absolutely love this idea! I’ve been wrestling with how to combine words, sketches, and other musings from my day into some kind of book, but I’ve struggled to describe or define what it is—which has held me back. Not anymore—an Artist Book it is, and I’m starting on it!

I struggle to for so long! Hope this ends up working for you!

This reminds me of the Commonplace Book! I first came across this idea in Tiago Forte’s Build a Second Brain. It was a popular practice for thinkers starting back in the 17th Century (apparently it was a way for early Victorians to deal with their version of information overload 😅). Anyway, having one place to collect all of your influences/inspirations was very useful for not forgetting what’s important (having a second memory). I’m sure you start to recognize patterns in yourself that way too. An externalization of your thinking ☺️✍️✨

It is that + a sketchbook + a journal … I really want to call it a Ten Minute Artist Book (but that feels so commercial) The goal is to collect and fill daily. I think it’s a human need and desire that gets neglected!

I like to think of it as having a conversation with yourself ☺️ A Ten Minute Artist Chat with YOU, yourself, the artist 😄 A daily check-in basically. Drawing and writing as forms of externalizing your thinking…like building an analog ChatGPT of yourself to talk to 😅🙈

Also love this idea. I've been doing more exploring fine art and other influences recently; both because it's interesting and joyful and to step further away from just scrolling feed after feed of contemporary illustration and design. Something like this I think will allow more for deeper dives into that, but also exploring other things too. Love it, thank you!

Thank you for this fabulous tip (and many others before). I would love to see a few pages of your journal.

It’s not that exciting to look at but I will be sharing as I go for sure. It’s not meant to be a visual treat though it sometimes is:)

What a great idea! I love this. I'm not an illustrator, but this is a practice I could adopt, jotting down quotes, thoughts, observations (and sometimes scribbly pictures!). I'm already looking forward to flipping through it in the future and jogging my memory on notes and things I found interesting or inspiring. Thanks, Adam!

That’s so great to hear Brianne.

I’m glad you’ve always found value here, this could be a way for you to participate more and get involved with the prompts. I hope you’re having an amazing year!

Oh goodness I have an Artist Book! I took a Moleskine and slowly filled it with photographs and paintings that really moved me. I flip through it all the time. But I love your idea of taking it further bt adding my own thoughts and drawings too.
