Saturday: Start
Or start again, because everyday is a new beginning.
I’ve started doing
Challenge. This is an online challenge to do a project fot 100 days. (There are prompts!) While focuses on the daily habit of making, the 100 day project is about stringing together 100 days towards a particular project. Sometimes it’s nice to have an end date.It might help us get started.
My project is to make these cards, that are like mini, shareable versions of the newsletter.
I’m sharing them here but also on social media. (I’ll talk about social media in the next bit.) The challenge is to illustrate each card with these little icons, that also serve as the page breaks and reusable icons for my newsletter.
I’ve made the project really simple and more of a tweak to my daily routine rather than some grand thing that I’m going to lose steam with.
Here’s the first ‘Card’.
TEN MINUTE ARTIST PROMPT
Draw a potential ally and mentor
They don’t teach us this early enough, some people never figure it out, that we can’t do it alone. Think of any hero, in history or in fiction they all had their supporting crew and their mentor.
So you can draw, Alfred and Robin. Merlin. Aunt May and Mary Jane or the 12 Disciples. Or any image of someone who guides and someone who comes alongside.
Tell us about your allies and mentors
Drop your thoughts in the comment section below, and if you found this valuable, why not pass it along to an artist friend, peer, or student who might appreciate these insights too?
Sunday: Advertise
For a time, Over a decade social media has been a great place to advertise your art.
It’s been a great place to share photos and drawings or illustration and build a following. The scam was, we were building a following for the social media platforms, I guess it was kind of a symbiotic relationship, if you were sharing your art regularly you would have gotten the most benefits from these platforms.
These days, while the platforms have diminished in their return on investment, they remain one of the best ways to advertise your work.
The other part of my 100 day project is to share it on social media, being on social media is not something I’ve been doing actively for the past couple of years, but I’m going to share these cowards on social media for 100 days and see what happens.
If you want to get into the weeds, I’m sharing Bluesky, x, LinkedIn, and Threads and I’m doing that via this web app called Tyeprshare, it’s also where I create the cards in this format.
TEN MINUTE ARTIST PROMPT
Show your work
Find a piece of art you made, maybe yesterday’s prompt, but it can be any art, show it to someone with the enthusiasm of a child.
Pick someone you know will be supportive, maybe even share it in the chat
Have a great weekend, I hope doing these prompts will give you 10 minutes of joy each day!
If you would like to support my work you can:
buy my books, get a subscription to this newsletter, shop at my moms stationery shop, or try Typeshare for free : I use Typeshare like as a Cabin in the Woods, a quite place to write short pieces that I can schedule across social media like Threads, X, LinkedIn and Bluesky.
