Ten Minute Artist - How to be a sucessful illustrator at 40
Transform Your Creative Dreams into Daily Reality
"Give this illustration thing a shot."
That's what I told myself at age 38, committing to 4 hours of practice daily for 10 years.
But here's the thing - I didn't start with 4 hours. I started with just 10 minutes.
Ten minutes of sketching, whenever I could find them. Those 10 minutes became 20, then 30, then an hour... until eventually, I restructured my entire life around 4 hours of daily creative practice.
Two years later, I had signed contracts with Harper Collins, Bloomsbury, and Scholastic.
Today, I spend exactly half my days illustrating picture books, and the other half helping creators like you build sustainable creative practices - starting with just 10 minutes a day.
"The only way to be is to do. The only way to be the illustrator is to do the thing, even before you feel qualified to do it."

It was great having you Adam! Let’s do it again sometime!
Well done, Adam! Loved the thoughtful discussion candid advice on doing the thing! You inspired me to create a substack and embark on a daily sketch challenge, which is nearing 100 days! That’s my success.
