Step 1: Notice Others First
Write fan mail. Leave thoughtful comments. Share their work. Buy their stuff. Become someone else’s biggest fan before expecting them to be yours.
Step 2: Be Specific About Who You Help
Trying to reach everyone reaches no one. The more specific you are about who you’re helping and how, the faster your reach grows.
Step 3: Give Value Before Asking
Help other artists grow their audiences, and they’ll naturally want to help you grow yours. But only if you’re genuinely giving, not just expecting anything it return, things coma around in unexpected ways!
When I was looking for an agent, I asked publicly on social media (Twitter) after years of supporting other artists first. That ask generated enough interest to get my current agent’s attention — but it only worked because I gave attention first.
