The Power of 10 Minutes
And be curious about what makes us want to make anything at all.
Ten minutes feels tiny, doesn't it?
But here's the thing about ten minutes: it's long enough to notice something that matters, to have an insight, to fill 2 small pages, but short enough that your inner critic can't crash the party.
It’s also a respectable amount of time to be late for anything, so take this time for yourself and be okay for being 10 minutes late for something else.
Some days you'll sketch what you see.
Some days you'll paste in what you find.
Some days you'll write what you hear.
Some days you'll wonder what if.
There's no wrong way to fill these pages. No rules about what deserves to be collected. Just you and whatever catches your eye today.
Think of each ten-minute session as tuning into your creative instincts. Over time, you'll find treasures that used to slip past unnoticed. You'll discover patterns in what draws you in. You'll start collecting moments that feel like they were waiting for you to find them.
The trick is protecting ten minutes for yourself and paying attention during that time.
Sometimes 10 minutes is hard, even a torture, struggle through it and enjoy the relief of the buzzer when it’s over.
TEN MINUTE ARTIST PROMPT
Use a timer
Designate a go to timer, a stopwatch, and app on your phone, what ever it is and use the same one every time. When doing these prompts always use the timer and always stop when the time is up.
Start again if you need to, but get used to the time control, become familiar with it. Allow your self to feel the satisfaction when the timer goes out, and train yourself to bring more and more intensity to each session.
You can always add minutes later on, for example maybe add a minute every 30 days, but when that gets hard always allow yourself to fall back to the ten minutes.
PS: In January, the daily notes will only be available to paid subscribers, everyone will still get the weekly roundups. I want to build some momentum by being more open and vulnerable to the smaller audience, in my writing and my artist book. It’s a win for me and a win for anyone who wants to come along for the ride 🌊
(It’s $100 a year which works out to $8.33 a month, or get a monthly pass and binge for $20)
You could also buy my books, visit this affiliate link to start writing online, and shop at my mom’s stationery shop :)
Lastly, Enroll to ART GYM to get 24 Drawing Workshops for $25, offer ends soon!
Very enjoyable read, as always!
