The Continuous Line Method: A 10-Minute Ritual to Defeat the Blank Page Forever
One simple drawing exercise to unlock your creative flow—no perfectionism required
Over time you will develop your favourite way to deal with a blank page. I have mine, Draw 4 boxes and fill them up with comics.
I don’t particularly like sharing these, but I love making them. You will find your own thing, your own practice.
But when you’re starting out it’s important to just start. And maybe after you’ve been visiting a page regularly for a while you just want to mix it up, this works too!
TEN MINUTE ARTIST PROMPT
Draw a continuous line to fill a page.
You might want to add some additional rules, I haven’t but you could make this your own…
for example, push a pebble across the page with a pencil and see where it leads you… like taking a pebble for a walk.
Or start from the middle, or from the corner.
Or straight lines only, or organic lines only.
You might to this exercise in a meditative way paint attention to the tip of the drawing instrument transforming the surface.
Make this your go to way to start, a way to step into your creative stride, or try it once and forget it.
However you do it, just do it!
I got my kid to do it too while I wrote this:)
Here are some MORE drawings from this month’s gallery, Share YOURS!
: I’ve been obsessed ( again) with lucha livre characters… La Niña mascarada fights the rino and the tiger … trying to get better at anthropomorphizing animals 🥺: I’ve been tackling humor with watercolors. Here's a cut paper illustration for the book dummy I've been working on. :)Show them some love and share your own drawings in the chat!
