Note on the practice: Ten Minute Artist is about keeping an Artist Diary as a way to stay connected to our creativity in the present and through the years. To help you set up you diary I’ve created a FREE 5-day email course for you.
You can find Day 1, here.
Dear Artist Friend,
How’s the year going so far?
I’ve noticed that people are actively reclaiming their attention. Keeping an artist diary is a great way to do that. And the best way to keep an artist diary, is to keep it low stakes.
It’s easy to get caught up in a comparison trap especially when you’re starting out. But really you only need to write or draw for yourself, that’s the best place to start.
And the best drawing exercise, is the one you’re willing to do.
Start by finding the absolute minimum you will be willing to do daily, and do that daily.
I remember a saying that the best camera is the one that you have with you. When it comes to drawing, the best drawing is the one you’re willing to do.
The best drawing exercise
Find the minimum you’re willing to do each day.
Maybe it’s writing one sentence, maybe it’s drawing one flower.
Draw a frame, then ask yourself what is the minimum you’d be willing to do to fill up the frame.
Share it with us!
Your Artist Friend,
PS: Today’s Spark is free… feel free to share it.
