Telling stories with poses, adds an extra dimension and value to your character design
PROMPT: Draw a character in three sequential panels
The first pose you draw is probably of a character smiling hands in the pocket or behind their back, and not doing anything in particular.
The pose that get’s you the gig probably features the same character, on the bus on his way to work, another one of him sheepishly looking in the mirror, and a close up of him getting ready for work.
TEN MINUTE ARTIST PROMPT
Draw a character in three sequential panels
silently tell a mini-story with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Use only visual cues—no words or text.
A note from the author…
HAH, that’s the first time I called myself that. Anyway, I wanted to say hi, AND, that I get that there is a lot happening in the world right now. And it’s infuriating, and scary and worrisome…
One conclusion you might come up with is why even bother doing anything, least of all draw for 10 minutes a day.
Why learn to draw, or maintain a practice when AI is going to take my job?
Or entire countries are not going to do business with me… or the price of everything is going to go back.
Why even try when progress just reverses itself, or is unappreciated, or worse!
Just do nothing? Live in fear? Consume more news?
I read a thing that said we were never meant to know all the problems happening in the world. I’m writing this on a Sunday night and I’ll be honest I had a beautiful day in ignorant bliss.
I cuddled my family in the morning, went to church and had a long drawn out lunch, took a long nap, did some reading then played with my kid, first we wrestled, then she painted my nails.
Then I fired up the internet thing… and the world is on fire.
I got a little bit of understanding about the phase we are moving into as a world, and how that may affect my corner off it, and I read the sentiments of friends from around the world.
Then I said, enough of that.
And start to think about what I can do. Almost nothing is the answer.
But I can wrestle with my kid, and have drawn out lunches and wrestle and let her paint my nails and draw for 10 minutes. In doing these things, I’m putting a little bit of love into the world, in writing to you, I’m hoping I’m doing the same too, and I encourage you to pay it forward, as the math goes, if we all do that, things will get better.
Doing what you love matters! And I think it matters more than the news.
Things are hard, but I hope you have love flowing to you and through you and that takes up all your focus!
If you know someone who could use some daily inspirations and encouragement, invite them to join us!
What a wonderful statement Adam! I love the idea of you wrestling with your kids, had the nail painted, and gift to the world the 10 minute drawing, I wanna live in the Ignorant Bliss too (and of course, I already do, I do not have a TV at home of course, I check the daily news, but as you, I try to not get too into the “ugliness from bad news”). And yes, definitely you’re an Author. <3
What colour are your nails then?? 😅 I stayed away from news too, did some art, took a nice nap, looked at the sunshine (it was too cold to actually go out in it!!), did some more art and avoided all wrestling or nail painting.
