Part 1: The idea

“Every one has two maybe three ideas in a lifetime, everything they do is a refinement and a new form of the same two maybe three ideas”

- Jon Batiste

I don’t typically give

Substack
advice, you should go to
Claire Venus (she/her) ✨
for that. But I do have this one piece of advice, especially when starting out.

Write Daily.

Create a substack in your name…

‘Adam’s Substack’ for example then start writing daily.

Don’t worry about branding, don’t worry about theme don’t worry about topic, all that can change, no one’s reading anyway, just write daily to build the habit. The habit is what makes you a writer.

By writing writing daily your theme will emerge:

Internally, you will know what resonates with you most. What service you are willing to do with your writing. (💎Because writing publicly is a service,

Claire Venus (she/her) ✨
thought me that), if you just want to write for yourself that’s called a journal. If you want to share your journal as a service, that works too.

Externally, people will tell you when you are doing good writing, they will tell you with likes, comments, recommendations and their money. Write more of that. learn to write endlessly about what you write about.

TenMinuteArtist Prompt:

Find your 2 Maybe 3 Ideas

In 5 minutes write down all your best ideas.

In your next 5 minutes divide them into 2/3 categories

Try to articulate what the big ideas of your life is about.

Part 2: Some technical stuff for people with substacks

💎 I started this substack by writing daily, at some point, my subscriber growth became flat, I was loosing as many subscribers as I was getting each day at the time that was 2-3 new subscribers in, 2-3 old subscribers out.

I realised every-time I post, I lose a few subscribers.

This will be true for any writer, sometimes your email hits them at the bad time or triggers something, or the realize this is no longer for them, it happens.

Subscribers leak.

One way to stop the leak for me was to post weekly, that way I’ll only leak 2-3 subscribers a week while gaining 2-3 subscribers a day.

That was fine for a while.

But I really need to write daily, it energises me for the day, it keeps my mind alert to good ideas and it keeps the habit going.

If I aim to write daily and miss 50 days a year I will have 315 posts.

If I aim write weekly and miss 50, I’ll have 2.

So writing daily suits me, but now I was leaking 10-20 subscribers a day! Which is why I decided to have the option of daily and weekly editions. Toggle these on and off here.

Lila Krishna
asked, “ How do you create a daily opt-in”

Here’s How I created a daily opt in…
