For the longest time, I would say I haven’t found my style.
The truth is, I wasn’t ready to commit. I wanted to explore and try new things. But if clients don’t know what I’m selling. How can they buy it?
So I committed to writing the kind of art I make. It was time to stop exploring and start producing.
“I make energetic and witty illustrations with a comic sensibility.”
Then I make a piece that shows that. And another. And another. I show the world what I’m selling.
And they start buying.
Before I committed to a style, I would feel envious of all the different styles out there. I would think, I could do that!
But after committing, I stopped being envious and am able to really enjoy the different styles of my peers and heroes.
You are so right, Mr. Ming! An illustration style is akin to written voice. The way we write our words, speak them aloud, and draw pictures, need to have collective synergy. Again, good stuff!
Yes. Got me thinking. Great 🙌
