This week I’m pulling from the Archives, here you will find two printable that you may use throughout the week. Use one for 7 days or alternate between the two.
1. Draw a Concept
Draw a concept is similar to last week’s project, “Drawing Ideas”.
You will see the worksheet gives you a word to illustrate, and some space to write some ideas be fore you do. I find this process of writing as the firs stage of developing an illustration pulls out ideas and associations that you might not get otherwise!
When thinking of writing, ask ‘what if..’ questions, or ask a question you haven’t asked before to prompt your ideas.
Examples:
What if I only use two colours?
What if it’s a lettering project?
What if I did it in my Kids book Style?
What is the colour of the word I’m illustrating?
What if no was an animal?
Once you’ve done the word ‘No’, consider illustrating these other words:
Habit, Reframe, Happy, Down, Time, Highest, Trip
2. Drawing via subtraction
Here I’ve given you 6 shapes, first your goal is to copy these shapes but draw them larger (in the space provides, or in your sketchbook), then use an eraser or a scissors to remove parts of the shape to make it another shape.
This exercise is all about playing with shapes and coming up with your own unique shapes.
It will help you think about shapes, and discover a connection between drawing and sculpting.
PS: I hope you enjoy working with these worksheets, you can print them out, or use them as a guide for your sketchbooking. It is also a hint of things to come.
