An introduction to two black wing accessories and a hack.
If you’re new here or need a refresher, this is what Ten Minute Artist is all about.
If you want to know how I make these comic-newsletters with 3 pencils, here’s a fun and easy process.
And now if you’re ready, let’s talk about…
The Shortness of Pencils
And the little details that come up when engaged in a daily practice and how they enrich the broader practice of art making. (Plus the procreate brush I used to create this comic)
But first, how do you feel when you’ve used your pencils up into a stump?
Blackwing pencils are the best.
They are so good that people buy covers for their points called Point Guards and extenders called Pencil Extenders to make them last a little bit longer. To be honest, I don’t really fancy the extenders. To use them you need to remove the eraser from the back of the pencils and stick in the pencil extender. I find using them distracting.
I do like the point guard though.
You do want to carry your pencils around without drawing all over the inside of your bag or pocket. And as an added bonus you get to keep the point sharp!
If you rip the eraser casing at the back of the pencils, you can also use the point guard as an extender to get 4mm extra length, but really, it’s the weight that helps make the pencil more usable for another drawing or two.
Yup I spend a lot of time thinking about little details like these, they may seem trivial, but I think they are so important…
