If you’re looking for a low lift, with a huge upside, this is the diary style for you.
In the journal section of your local big book store you will probably find some version of a 3-year diary or 5-year diary. And that is the best kind of diary to collect your night line.
I learned this from Austin Kleon who got the idea from Dan Pink who got the idea from a time when we didn’t have screens.
And the idea is simple, to write one line a day, at the end of the day. This can be a quote, a question, something you heard, just one line to take from the day.
I suggest keeping it to Quotes, Things Heard and Questions.
This is a great bedtime routine for 3 reasons.
Punctuation: It’s a way to tell yourself the day is dome and wind down for bed.
Selection: Selecting your line forces you to be reflective while actively searching, meaning the reflection happens almost in the background as you search, I think this is a good way to sift through your day with a focus on something positive you can take away. The mere act of searching is the benefit.
Compilation: These single sentences add up quickly, in 3 years you will have over a thousand of the best insights, ideas and questions, potent and easily accessible and totally yours. This is wealth to anyone but particularly so for the creative soul
Try it for a week, a month, a year? If you want us to keep you accountable to the time period you want to try it for, tell us about your commitment in the chat, and why you might want to try this or if you’ve already been doing something similar.
