Ignorance
I am tempted as so many have to use my art to make a statement or show support. But if I were to do that I first need to understand and be informed about what’s happening.
I’m ignorant about the situation in Russia and Ukraine.
I’m addressing today’s note to readers living in Ukraine or Russia. My heart and prayers go out to you. If you know where I should start to understand what’s going on, please share a link. Or if you need someone to listen feel free to reply and share your thoughts and I will read them carefully and empathetically.
In the meantime, I will start with these conversations,
I’ve been following Nikita, since his substack and mine were featured publications on the same week.
And this one, which is probably more relevant than it seems on the surface. Lex states in the intro that he will be going to Ukraine and Russia to speak to people on the street and leaders, including Putin in the coming days.
It’s not time-efficient, but I find long conversations to be the best way to process the nuance of complex topics.
I’ll be drawing as I listen. What are you listening to?
War is the realm of uncertainty; three quarters of the factors on which action in war is based are wrapped in a fog of greater or lesser uncertainty. A sensitive and discriminating judgment is called for; a skilled intelligence to scent out the truth.
— Carl von Clausewitz[2]
