I recently got an email from a client, who thanked me for my enthusiasm and that it made the project a joy.
Morden dictionaries say it differently now. But what the word “Enthusiastic” means
is to be; “Filled with the Spirit (of God)”. To be enthusiastic is to be filled with a sense of calling and purpose and motivation that is bigger than oneself, even bigger than our tribe or group identities. Filled with more than we are, so much more that it overflows and we become merely a vessel for that Spirit.
You’ve felt it maybe once in your life, maybe today, maybe every day.
But it’s impossible to be enthusiastic all the time. It ebbs. So my professional advice is:
Do not reply to emails when you are not enthusiastic.
