TEN MINUTE ARTIST PROMPT
B - Beorn
He was a skin-changer. He changes his skin; sometimes he is a huge black bear, sometimes he is a great strong black-haired man with huge arms and a great beard.
I recently went back to the gym after getting injured 4 weeks ago.
It felt good to get back, but I was also tentative, I went easy on my recovering hamstring. I skipped some exercises in Pilates, stretched less. When the coach pushed me, I used wisdom to refrain from being challenged.
Going to the gym is not a show, it’s coming to terms with reality — I need to do the work to get better.
We’ve taken a break from drawing from this series from 5 days, maybe some of you were catching up, or drawing something else. I hope you’re feeling great about jumping back in too! (And if you were in the Creative Sprint, high five to you!)
Maybe you’re coming back from an even longer art hiatus, one new reader is her because with a 1 year old child, 10 minutes is all they can muster.
You’re in the right place! I hope you’re excited to jump in too.
If you’re new…
We’re working on a series of 26 prompts inspired by ‘The Hobbit’, one for each letter of the alphabet. On Sunday, I’ll share some of the work that’s come in from the week, so I hope you’ll contribute something, and be part of our Sunday Shares!
The prompts are meant to be done in 10 minutes, but it’s totally okay to go over!
Here at Ten Minute Artist, we believe It’s more important to build a daily practice than it is to make an amazing piece of work.
When getting back into the practice it’s good to think about the basics.
Schedule a time to work on your practice, ideally you will also have the rest of your day planned in such a way way that you know you have time to get to your ‘important’ work later. So for now, you have 10 minuted to draw, no distractions, just pure focus.
Have your space ready with a clear working surface and good lighting and all your tools. If you’re using reference, collect it in advance. Don’t be precious about it. I like sticking my reference collection on Freeform from Mac.
Set a timer and draw without interruption, hopefully you have nothing scheduled immediately after, so you could extent the time if you wanted to
Share your work. A work is never really done until it’s shared. Unless you are the only intended viewer of it! You can share it with a single person, share it with a group, or share it everywhere… your choice.
Remember to have fun and enjoy the process you are showing up for yourself not anyone else. And go at your own pace
Ps: Here’s day 1 From the recently concluded Creative Sprint, about changing your stories about money as a creative person.
