Day 7: You’ve tasted Success!
MINI GUIDE: A red carpet walk to your dreams.
Congratulations on finishing the first Sketchbook Project of 2024! - And if you haven’t started yet, don’t beat yourself up start any time, do as little or as much as you can, it all counts, and it all builds towards the habit!
Here’s a recap of Week 1 (Paid)
We build who we want to become through daily action. This little 10-minute practice is planting and nurturing the seed of the person you want to become.
Specific Knowledge is a treasure you particularly possess, through nurture and application of your specific knowledge you can create untold value!
Being an artist is like searching for a path through a Labyrinth. Here’s a clue to finding the secret door: The Obstacle is the Way
Collections. Once you find the way, stay on the path and gather the fruit of your labor.
Was about testing the skill you’ve been building for 4 days by testing it Out in the World.
We discuss how sketching is a mindfulness practice and the importance of bringing presence to your work and letting your Presence flow through your work.
And today we’re going to talk about success…
“Which two , among a thousand wise men, will define success in the same words; yet failure is always described but one way. Failure is man’s inability to reach his goals in life, whatever they may be” - Og Mandino
The difference between one who fails and one who succeeds is in their habits.
What we’re doing here, is we’re building habits.
We’re building success.
This is what it looks like, small little actions.
Acquiring and applying skills as you go. Using obstacles to find secret doors to higher levels. Building a body of work. Drawing wherever you go. And putting everything you have into it.
If you did all that this week you already tasted success.
You’ve walked a step on the path of success. Not just in the direction of success. No, you’re actually on it. You’re on the red carpet.
You just need to keep walking and whatever prize you choose is yours.
Let me give you an example, if I were to draw a picture of a dragon and post it every day online, what are the chances I will be asked to make a book about dragons?
I would say 100%
Now instead, if were to draw cupcakes and post them on Instagram every day what are the chances I would be asked to make a book about cupcakes?
I would also say 100%
So who determines what books I make?
Is it the editors and art directors at the publishing companies?
Or is it me by my actions, by deciding how I want to apply my specific knowledge, overcome obstacles, building a body of work, that proves I can do the job?
And it’s the same with you.
Every little success. Every 10-minute session. Is another step on your red carpet. If you ever need help feeling motivated, see each session as a step on the red carpet to your dreams.
Okay. Now go draw!
You’re going to draw Batman, the cookie.
Another iconic shape. It’s no accident that the cultural icons of our time have iconic shapes. The shape is the difference between someone registering your drawing in their mind at a glance, or having it disappear in the background.
Okay, question for you!
We did Charlie Brown yesterday, And Batman today, if this were a set of 3, what character would be missing?
Some Resources:
Mickey Mouse (missing character) 🤷🏼♀️
