I was a dreamer for 29 years, and then this happened…
2 questions that ignite your creative fire and turn dreams into reality.
At 40, I was no closer to my childhood dream of being an author-illustrator than when I was 11. Twenty-nine years of excuses, distractions, and thinking…. “someday”
The thought of being 50 with the same regret terrified me into action.
I imagined 50-year-old me regretting not using my 40s to pursue this dream. That’s when I decided to act.
I stopped waiting to feel “ready” and started anyway.
Think of your creative ambition, illustrating a book, writing a script, selling prints what ever it is, choose the strongest one.
NOW, Slow down for a minute, answer these two questions.
If you’re still making excuses in 10 years, what would you feel? (make it really bad)
If you actually start today, in 10 years what could you achieve? And how would that make you feel? (what would an optimist say)
Take a moment, do it in your head.
When your answers both terrify and thrill you, that’s when you have it. You don’t need perfect plans or skills, you need the energy and drive from being both thrilled and terrified at the same time.
Now if you did that exercise and answered the questions in your head you’ve already started to generate a spark.
PS: If you really want to terrify and thrill yourself into action right now do this: Split a piece of paper in two and use one section for writing ALL the answers for question one and and the other section write ALL for answering for question 2 this exercise is literally life changing.
You’re actually writing down the reasons why you cannot stay the same, and the reasons why you must get started.
Spend 10 minutes do it with emotion, focus and attention.
Tomorrow: Two ways to find your creative voice.
