Childish views of the word practice.

I read recently that someone through that prayers ended with an “OH-MAN!”. It was a mistaken understanding from childhood that the person brought well into their twenties.

I think people have mistaken understanding of words all the time.

One of the words that we may have mistakenly understood is the word ‘Practice’.

As a child the word practice meant something like torture or penance. The thing is when I did find something I loved, a new game or sport - a new ‘practice’. I was discouraged from doing it. Those were distractions and obsessions.

These day’s what “practice” means to me is: “The thing you do”

For many people that is a job.

My job is a part of my practice now. Not the other way around.

Part of my practice is to draw icons daily ( as daily as I can) , I’ve moved this into a small sketchbook now, and have found it thoroughly enjoyable. Prompts help with the practice, but the practice is not about the prompts.
