Starting A drawing challenge is a great way to connect with some other creatives and have a shared experience across time and space. Yes you can join one of the bigger art challenges, but there is something special about doing something together in a small intimate group of art buddies. (Art buddies provided in this post). You can even challenge yourself!
Here’s how to start your own drawing challenge in 3 steps.
First decide on some constraints, how long do you want to do it for? !) how many minutes a day?, for a week, a month?, longer?
You’re reading the Daily Edition of Ten Minute Artist, if you prefer getting Weekly Editions you can adjust your setting here.
Second decide what you will be drawing, one of the benefits of doing a challenge is overcoming a blank page by having a ready assignment. I suggest using a P.A.C.T frame work, pick a Place, Animal, Character and Thing for each day of the challenge. Then either choose from the list, or draw all 4. I will be drawing all 4 to give me a divers range of subject matter. (Use my list or start your own)
Third, invite at least one person to draw along with you, hound them, and ask them to hound you act as both cheerleader and pace setter for each other. (this is my invitation to you to draw with me for a week, you’re welcome to ask a friend to join us too!) Use the button to share this post.
Over the next four days I’ll share specific thoughts on drawing places, animals, characters, and things. For now I’ll just say use a timer as a constraint, decide how many minutes you want to spend on each subject, and limit your drawing to that. The ten minute manifesto will explain why.
Finally, share your work and we’ll discuss our learnings and challenges in this chat, let’s do this challenge for 7 days and see how it goes! Say ‘I’m in’ in the comments to lock in your commitment to draw for 7 days, and I’ll manually include you in a chat where we can share our work!

PS: Join us in Portugal for a 5-Day in person Art Experience.
