Drawing Prompt: Draw Kids Hands
My Publisher asked for a bio for a Jacket Cover
Wasted Opportunity
1. Drawing Prompt: Draw Kids Hands
Draw Kids hands
Today’s prompt is inspired by a page I’m working for in a book where kids are taking notes and searching. I’m drawing just the hands from the kids perspective as a way of bringing the kids into the story.
It’s also fun to draw chunky things in tiny hands.
2. My Publisher asked for a bio for a Jacket Cover
So I wrote one:
Adam Ming is a Malaysian illustrator whose witty and energetic illustrations bring a delightful comic sensibility to both fact and fiction for children. Raised on the vibrant island of Penang, Adam's work is infused with the hidden delights and historic architecture of his homeland, giving it a tactile, dynamic quality.
In addition to his acclaimed illustration work, which has been shortlisted for awards and selected as Junior Library Guild Gold Standard, Adam shares his creative process and insights on his Substack newsletter, "Ten Minute Artist." Now based in Kuala Lumpur, he continues to create engaging, playful visuals for a wide range of clients including HarperCollins, Bloomsbury, and Penguin. Adam's distinctive style and keen visual humor are sure to captivate young readers.
If you’re writing a bio, here are some suggestions:
Provide relevant context: Include details about your background, upbringing, or inspirations that help explain your work and creative style.
Highlight notable achievements: Mention any awards, accolades, or other recognition you've received to establish your credibility.
Seamlessly incorporate side projects: If you have additional creative endeavors, weave them into the bio narrative rather than listing them separately.
3. Wasted Space
Kristy Keller has written a good substack about the wasted opportunity on our substack, I’ll be looking to leverage more of this…
I subscribe to a LOT of newsletters and occasionally, one hits my inbox and I’m like, “Dang…they did a great job of utilizing that space!”
For your inspiration, today I’m highlighting four newsletters that have impressed me with how they use one little space to its full potential.
The space is called the Email Banner. Not everyone uses it and if you don’t, you’re wasting an opportunity to highlight what you do and who you are. Heck, even I’m wasting space with my lame email banners compared to these ones. - Kristy Keller
