#work #writing #belonging
I have just finished reading Anne Lamott's 'Bird by Bird'. The book is subtitled Some instructions on Writing and Life.
I have taken my time to read it. Years.
Sipping at it to make it last as if it was a fancy cocktail in a posh restaurant that I didn't feel I belonged in.
But with the last sip, I have two realisations at once.
1. It's not as fancy as I thought it was. Writing that is, it's just work that you can choose to do, like tidying up the living room at home.
2. And like tidying up the living room, the more of it you do, the more it feels like home.
The tidying analogy is not one that I've seen before but it's a good way of describing the process of taking what seems like an onerous task and finding a rhythm within it.
I’ve been wondering if I should read that book and keep hearing about it! I just might have to cave.
Love the analogy as well!
