Hello, Creative Minds!
I'm Adam Ming, a picturebook illustrator and writer on Substack.
I'm thrilled to welcome you to the 10-Minute Artist Newsletter. (formerly Adam’s Notes)
This newsletter is more than just a collection of articles; it's a journey we embark on together to nurture our creative spirits and turn dreams into reality. Here’s the vision of 10-Minute Artist.
The 10-Minute Artist Newsletter has 3 main objectives.
Helping you build Daily Creative Habits.
Trailblazing paths to help you break into the industry and get work.
Helping you stay motivated and keep going without burning out.
Building Daily Creative Habits
Have you ever thought about enhancing your creativity but didn't know where to start?
It begins with small, daily steps. Each week, I'll share prompts, tips, and assignments for you to try in your sketchbook. And I’ve also designed two tools to help you build a creative practice.
The tools
The Sketchbook Streak:
A method to foster your creative habit in just 10 minutes a day.
The 10-Minute Artist Projects
52 Creative Projects that you can do in your Sketchbook
For the Aspiring Illustrators
Breaking into the publishing industry can be daunting, but I'm here to guide you through it.
I'll share my personal experiences, obstacles, and solutions.
I broke into the picturebook industry right after the pandemic, at a time when social media was saturated, I’m in the thick of it sending news from the front lines. (11 book deals in 2 years!)
I’m also learning that everyone has their own way of breaking into the industry and I’m going to spend more time learning about how different individuals found their own path and sharing that with you.
This might be in the form of interviews, guest posts, and my own research and reading.
Together we’ll be able to learn about the principles and best practices of going pro and levelling up.
Stay tuned for deep-dive articles and Interviews.
Staying Motivated and Avoiding Burnout
Creativity is a marathon, not a sprint.
I'll share insights and strategies to keep your creative flame burning brightly without burning out. One of the key ways I do this is through community.
Every Month I’ll invite you to participate in community events online.
Online Drawing Workshops, Live discussions with Industry pros, and Collaborations with creators across Substack and Beyond!
A Visual Feast
What will a newsletter about illustration be without illustrations?
In 2024, I’m committed to illustrating each newsletter like it was my job. (Because it is)
I’ll be hand-crafting these illustrations to represent our creative journey.
