A NOTE ON THE PRACTICE
Ten Minute Artist is your daily companion in building a sustainable creative practice - one reflection, one prompt, one ten-minute session at a time.
Whether it leads to a fulfilling creative career, a thriving side practice, a vibrant community of artists, or simply the joy of creating again – it all begins with these daily moments of making.
The work, I suppose, is made in the editing, whereby I make literally hundreds of drawings, and then a much smaller percentage of those become the finished work.
— David Shrigley

Editing is what makes things good.
Making a lot, and while making being contented with making bad, or ugly, or honest work. A lot of time the making will produce something that looks like art straight off the bat, and trying to make it better will actually make it worse. I guess there can be too much editing too.
It’s a bit of a skill.
Leaving some of the bad bits is a skill.
It makes me think of this thing I read on the internet, it went something like this…
“When I started writing on Substack, I worried about getting every single word perfect. Now I just sit down and right.” -
TEN MINUTE ARTIST PROMPT
Make a to draw list
Make a list of 50 things to draw. Draw Them.
(Then make a new list, it’s okay to repeat)
You won’t be able to draw all of them in 10 minutes, but whenever you have 10 minute and don’t have something to draw, you’ll have a list.
This prompt was inspired by David Shrigley, and I first heard about it from
Share your list in the comments.
More notes on the practice:
All the prompts are repeatable, and customisable, use them as they are or adjust for inspiration and save them up for future use.
The main tool we use for our practice is an artist book that we will sit with for 10 minutes daily. ( but any sketchbook or journal works too)
