I want to talk like that!
When Jerry Seinfeld went to his first Stand-Up comedy act as a kid he left with this question. How in the world do they talk like that? I want to talk like that! Later he found out that there is a reason it was called ‘an act’.
No one magically speaks for 30 minutes and is precisely funny the entire time. The act needs to be built.
Jerry’s process was to write a joke every day, and refine them in front of an actual audience every night while earning enough to rent a room and buy a loaf of bread so he could do it again the next day. Jerry still writes a joke a day.
We’re all here because we’ve had our own versions of, “I want to talk like that”.
We all need to come up with our own versions of how to do it.
Every comedian is different, but they all have an act that’s unique to them, this is why I think how a comedian comes up with an act is a great case study for how to navigate your creative journey.
