5 REASONS WHY I BELIEVE SOCIAL MEDIA IS STILL A USEFUL PROMOTIONAL TOOL FOR ARTIST
Oooh, I wonder if I can get away with all caps for the titles… seems apt for this post.
Over the past 2 years,I’ve consumed a lot of social media, but produced very little.
Yet I know if I wanted to generate attention for the things I create, this will be my first stop. I’ve considered leaving social media, but the fact is it’s where people spend their attention.
He’s how I think about social media is still useful
You can DM anybody
Will they answer?
Who knows, it depends who’s calling I guess. But you can reach people and they can reach you. When I get stuck I reach out to people who have done the thing I’m trying to do.
I don’t remember anyone not replying so far.
I answer most of my DMs too. Not immediately, but I do.
Your comments are actually welcome
People want comments.
And it’s good etiquette to respond to comments. So leaving comments is a great way to get attention and make friends because you are giving people what they want first.
Imagine the best comment you could ever receive, give that, genuinely. Most of the time this will result in the person visiting you bio.
Your bio is your elevator pitch
You get about 160 characters to tell people — Who are you, what are you offering, how can people get it, if you’re commenting and sending DM’s, then the bio is key real estate.
In effect you get to decide who hears your elevator pitch
Your content is your credibility
Maybe that’s just your sheer consistency that demonstrate you mean business, or it’s crazy creativity, humour, personality, accomplishments.
Now you could go to job interview after job interview, do cold calls, go to conferences, or you go straight into peoples brains with whatever message you have.
Social media is like universal packaging and delivery for whatever it is you have to offer, and it offers it to the person who wants it the most.
It’s the ability to demonstrate you are who you say you are.
A 11 second reel could get thousand’s of views
This can be as simple as dipping a brush into water color and painting a detail, and a thousand people are thinking of you again.
Sure you might have feelings about making reels. If you wanted to change your feelings, it could be the difference between getting picked for a project or not.
Wishing you much success with all you do on social media.
Connect with the people you want to connect to. If you’re an artist looking to promote yourself, I hope this helps you get where you’re going!
TEN MINUTE ARTIST PROMPT
Where is one area of social media where you might gain something by cranking up the volume?
More posts? More comments? More DMs? No matter what your goals are I bet they can be reached quicker by just turning up one aspect of your social media.
I love comments.
