I believe that as artist we need 3 things.
Skill Development
Daily Practice
A Party (group to go on this adventure with)
I want Ten Minute Artist to be place to work on the Daily Practice piece.
Which is why I’m removing and repackaging all the non ‘daily practice’ bits from this substack for clarity.
This started as Adam Ming’s substack, i.e whatever I wanted it to be, but over time as more and more of you signed on, I find it helpful to have a consistent format and value proposition.
So this is how I’m thinking about this thing.
What I hear from you when I ask is — that you like how I turn ideas into actionable steps. And that’s what I want to focus on with Ten Minute Artist. We used to call these prompts, but prompts mean something else now, so I want to call it ‘Creative Action’.
Something you can do to exercise your creative muscles daily
If you’re a free subscriber the plan is to send the Creative Actions to you weekly
Paid subscribers will get the daily version, with some extra guidance + a reflection
The other thing I’ll do is pack together related reflections and creative actions into, mini packs by topic so you can find what you need more easily.
The point is to make the work manageable and stackable for me, and easier for you to browse and get what you need. Now if only I could magically reformat the past 1000+ posts into this new format.
Until then I’ll be doing this by hand, please bear with me, I promise it will be worth it!
What about the other 2 pieces?
I’ve collaborated with 2 other very talented people to deliver the two other pieces.
Art Gym
Some of you will know that
and I run and that is where I want to focus my energy to deliver skill development. We’ve done over 20 workshops over the past couple of years each focused on a single skill or concept that we help you develop over the course of 90 minutes. And we’re going to keep doing that.Art Quest
Over the exact same duration I’ve also been working with the multi talented
on this playful education concept, where we frame the creative journey as a quest. And like any Quest, your chances of success go way up when you face the adventure as a party. We’re launching in January 2026 as a way for you to party up with us and each other and face the big challenges of being an artist. We ran a beta test of one of our offerings last month with a small group and I dare say it was a resounding success. Now we’re working on ways to package that up so we can make it available to more people.
That’s what I’m working on, (Alongside some cool book projects) what are YOU? Working on?
I’m almost finished with my first book dummy and just started an exciting series for my portfolio!
