Making a living is a good goal.
Being an artist, also a good goal.
But if you combine them, making a living as an artist. Then it becomes a challenge. We can’t just make art and expect the money appear.. the way you can just do a job and a paycheck appears.
I think you really have to think about them as two things that overlap.
You want to create an art practice.
You also want to create a business with your art.
Both take work. And I think it becomes a struggle when all the focus goes into just making the art and not enough focus goes into ‘the business’.
There is a third path, and that is leaving these two tracks separate.
Make money. Make Art.
You don’t have to not make money in some other way to be considered a real artist! Nor do you have to make money for your art to be considered a real artist!
If you just make art even for 10 minutes, you’re an artist!
What’s your thoughts about making art and making money? Which combination do you practice, and which combination would you like to practice?
In the upcoming Creative Sprint, I want to discuss 4 ideas around art and money, I gave these ideas S names. Streams, Seasons, Story and Sovereignty.
If you’re a Creative Sprinter (Paid Subsciber) or Studio Founder (Founding member) you will get the Creative Sprint in your inbox over 5 days starting from April 25th.
If you’re not joining us for the Creative Sprint you’ll have some time to work on the prompts or perhaps even jump in if you’ve been more of an observer so far!
