Starting something new is always so exciting.
Some new venture, drawing challenge, hobby. But sooner or later it stops being fun. When I looked at the prompt for today’s inktober drawing, and saw that it was, ‘expedition’, my heart sank.
But then I recalled one of the drawings I made in a recent
session, ‘building a library of colouring techniques’. And I thought, maybe I could allply one of the things I practiced. It got me through.
And when I was done, I came up with 2 ideas.
Next time draw the windows.
Think in silhouettes and fill in a few lines for details
These 2 ideas reflect progress in my practice. And they would not have happened if I didn’t do my practice even though I didn’t feel like it at the beginning.
10 minute invitation to make it fun
Next time things stop being fun, think about how you could make it fun. make a list of ideas you can use to add fun to an otherwise painful creative session. Maybe you could add music, or draw in a different room or cafe, or call a friend and doodle while you draw, whatever is fun for you. You might even make a list of why you are not finding it fun. To help you think how to make it fun.(hint do the opposite)
Ps: And you know what’s fun? ART GYM. I teamed up with my illustrator/educator friend
