059: 🍷🎟 Scale Groupings & some Private Notes.

In the last dispatch, I talked about grouping values , which is about limiting the values in a picture to give it simplicity. I’m discovering for the first time today, that this idea can be applied to Space as well.

And the way to do that is to work on some kind of grid. Like in my sketch above. The reason it works is the grid encourages you to create within a limited range, which then creates a rhythm and harmony.

For example imagine drawing a small square, you would use a 4-dot grid, now. If you wanted to draw a larger square you might use a 9-dot grid, and so on.

Perhaps this example from the “Mon Premier Cahier de Dessin” explains it better. I’m still figuring this out to be honest, but if you know anything about drawing writhing grids or related topics, I’ll be happy to hear it. I just wanted to share my discovery with you.

The discovery that drawing on dot paper gives a particular quality to the drawings.
