☕️ Today’s post is me thinking out loud more than usual. I started writing about something I didn’t have an answer for. I wrote to flounder toward an answer. I think ‘how to’ books, help us get to the ground floor quickly. The rest of it has to be learned but cannot be thought. If you’re afraid of being called out, maybe avoid this one.

Jerry Seinfeld believes Comedy cannot be taught.

Stephen King says he doesn’t know where ideas come from.

They can tell you what worked for them. But I can tell you none of you are going to be Jerry Seinfeld or Stephen King.

Another thing.

Doctors who get paid to cut you up, think it’s the best thing for you if they cut something out of you. They are trained and incentivized to think that way. It’s a matter of life or death indeed. Their life or death.

A doctor wanted to put my baby on a drip and hospitalize her for a week. I gave my baby sugar water and carried her to sleep at home instead and I think she’s much better off.

A prescription is a recipe, a ‘how-to’ that’s written down. Do they work?

Well, I’ve read both Stephen King's and Jerry Seinfeld’s books, and I’m still just Adam Ming. So I’m going to say no.

Maybe I’ll still read another 30 how-to books and listen to podcasts and take classes in the coming year. Why though? I’m going to explore this on the other side of the paywall.

If you’re not hopping over. Let me wrap this portion of things up by saying. I think these books are helpful when you’re starting out because you need to know what everyone else knows. But once you’ve gotten a start, the value of such books drops to almost Zero, and how you progress is by floundering.
